BEHIND THE SCENES

Coleco's Electronic Quarterback, released in 1978, was one of the earliest handheld electronic football games and a direct competitor to Mattel's Football. It was a massive commercial success, selling millions of units and helping establish Coleco as a major player in the electronic gaming market.

The profits from Electronic Quarterback and its Head to Head successors directly funded Coleco's development of the ColecoVision console, which launched in 1982. In a very real sense, without Electronic Quarterback, there would be no ColecoVision.

This recreation brings Coleco's gaming history full circle: a game that helped fund the creation of the ColecoVision, now playable on the ColecoVision itself — nearly 50 years after its original release.
